Custom Closets Near Lake of the Ozarks: Design & Installation
Custom closet design and installation near Lake of the Ozarks, MO. Walk-ins, reach-ins, pantries, and garage storage. Free virtual consultations. Since 1987.
If you've got a home near Lake of the Ozarks, you know the drill. You bought the place because the views are incredible, the water access is unbeatable, and it feels like an escape from the rest of the world. But at some point you opened a closet and thought, "Why is this the one thing about this house that nobody planned?"
Lake homes have a unique closet problem. Between seasonal gear, lake toys, extra linens for guests, and the fact that your wardrobe switches between "office professional" and "boat shoes and a swimsuit" depending on the day, your storage needs are different than a typical suburban home. And a lot of lake properties were built with closets that assumed you'd only keep a weekend bag in there.
We get it. LB Classic Closets has been building custom closets across mid-Missouri since 1987, and the Lake of the Ozarks area is one of our favorite places to work. We're based in Columbia, which puts us right in the sweet spot to serve lake homeowners in Camden, Miller, and Morgan counties.
Why Lake Homes Need Custom Closets
Lake houses and lake-area homes have storage challenges that most closet companies don't think about. Here's what we see when we work with lake homeowners.
Seasonal wardrobes are real. You're not just storing one season's clothes. You've got summer lake gear, fall layers, winter coats, and spring mud boots. That's four wardrobes in one closet, and a standard rod-and-shelf setup can't handle the volume. Custom closets give you zones for each season and make rotation easy instead of an all-day project.
Guest rooms need to actually work. If your lake home doubles as the gathering spot for family and friends (and whose doesn't?), those guest bedroom closets matter. Nobody wants to hand their guests a closet with three wire hangers and call it hospitality. A clean, functional guest closet with drawers, hanging space, and extra bedding storage makes your home feel like the retreat it's supposed to be.
Humidity is a real factor. Lake of the Ozarks gets humid, especially in summer. Closets in lake homes need materials and finishes that stand up to moisture without warping, peeling, or growing mold. We've been through enough Missouri summers to know exactly what holds up and what doesn't. Wire shelving rusts. Cheap particleboard swells. Quality materials with proper finishes last.
Storage for lake life. Fishing gear, life jackets, towels for a dozen people, cooler bags, boat accessories. These things need homes, and stuffing them in a hallway closet or the garage corner isn't a system. We design mudroom closets, entryway storage, and garage organization that gives every piece of lake gear its own spot.
What We Design for Lake Area Homes
We handle every type of custom storage project at the lake. Here's what we're typically building for homeowners in the area.
Master bedroom walk-ins that handle seasonal clothing rotation without feeling cramped. Double hanging sections, dedicated shoe storage, drawer units for smaller items, and enough shelf space to handle the off-season stuff without it taking over.
Guest bedroom reach-ins that feel welcoming and functional. Hanging space, a few drawers, extra blanket storage, and room for guests to actually unpack and feel at home.
Pantry systems for kitchens that are cooking for crowds. If you're feeding 12 people on a Saturday night (and you know you are), your pantry needs to be organized enough that you can find the serving platter without moving six boxes of pasta.
Mudroom and entryway storage that handles the transition from lake to house. Hooks for wet towels, bins for sandals, shelves for sunscreen and hats. The stuff that otherwise ends up in a pile by the back door.
Garage organization for boats, tools, seasonal decorations, and all the gear that comes with lake living. We build heavy-duty systems that handle weight, resist moisture, and keep things accessible.
Our Process for Lake of the Ozarks Clients
Working with us from the lake area is easy, and you don't need to drive to Columbia to get started.
Step one: submit your measurements. Head to measure.lbclassicclosets.com and use our online form to send us your room dimensions and photos. It takes about 15 minutes, and we've got a guide that walks you through exactly what to measure (check out our measuring guide blog post if you want the full breakdown).
Step two: virtual design consultation. We schedule a video call to talk through your space, your stuff, and what's driving you crazy. This is where we learn how you actually use your home, what you need to store, and what your mornings look like. No driving required.
Step three: custom design. We create your closet layout in ClosetPro, our professional design software. You see exactly what we're proposing before we build anything. Want to move that shelf? Add a drawer? Swap out the shoe rack for more hanging? We adjust until it's right.
Step four: professional installation. Our team comes to your lake home and installs everything. We handle the whole project, protect your floors, and clean up when we're done. You don't need to be there for the entire install, but we'll walk you through everything when it's finished.
The whole process from first contact to finished closet typically takes a few weeks, depending on the scope. We work around your schedule, and if your lake home is a weekend place, we can coordinate installation for when it works best for you.
Pricing for Lake Area Projects
We're transparent about pricing because you deserve to know what you're looking at before you commit to anything.
Reach-in closets typically run $1,000 to $3,500, fully installed. Guest bedrooms and smaller spaces usually fall here.
Walk-in closets start at $2,500 for a straightforward layout and go up to $5,000 to $7,500 for larger spaces with drawers, accessories, and premium finishes.
Pantry systems range from $2,000 to $5,000 depending on size and configuration.
Garage organization can run $3,000 to $8,000 or more for comprehensive setups.
Every price includes professional installation. We don't quote materials-only and leave you to figure out the rest. When we give you a number, that's the done number.
